How do you manage in a new country? The cradle of Taalbureau Maastricht is located in France. And to some extent in Russia. The countries where Nathalie de Schipper plunged into the deep end for three years in the early 1990s and was inspired by the idea of a Language Office. Because how do you manage in a new country?

TM works with interns from the Translation Academy. Nothing human is strange to them. The Translation Academy is a select programme where 75% of students don’t follow through. Where there is a culture of ‘language nerds’. Humble people. Who like to make translation jokes. “Make that the cat wise”.

What else connects the TM team? “It’s about being helpful, what does someone need? We support people. You try to make knowledge workers feel comfortable with the habits and customs in the Netherlands. You want a translation? Everything’s going to be okay, we’ll take care of it from here.”
